Yes, it's that time of year.... when we wax nostalgic and gather family around food, a tree and, hopefully, Christ -- the reason we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). I love this time of year... filled with joy, music, family and friends and maybe some snow!!
With this time of year, comes the decorations and the baking and the scurrying about to find the right gifts, but one of my favorite parts is pulling out the seasonal music and movies. Imagine my joy at being offered the chance to receive and review Amy Grant's new Christmas album, Tennessee Christmas! I have been a fan of Amy's since the 80's... back when she and Michael W. Smith were friends forever and on tour together!!
I've been listening to Tennessee Christmas for a week now. I have two favorites and two that I don't really care for. Amy includes in this CD the old faithfuls-- Tennessee Christmas, White Christmas, Joy to the World, Baby, It's Cold Outside (Feat. Vince Gill) and O Come, All Ye Faithful, as well as some that I wasn't as familiar -- Melancholy Christmas, Christmas For You and Me, Still Can't Sleep and Another Merry Christmas. In all, there are 13 tracks and I think there is something for everyone.

My favorite track? To Be Together:
I love it!! It is about my childhood... and my children's childhood. Traveling to family for Christmas-- they don't care what you look like, they just want you there!! And then, there is this line: "I'm singing out this song 'Til every lonely soul has heard We're not alone 'Cause Love has put His arms around the World." To me, this song sums up Christmas. the music lovely and melodic, just what you expect from Amy Grant.
I will say, I wasn't expecting the talking that happens throughout the album and I don't care for it as I think the talking distracts from the mood being set by the music. I would say my least favorite song is Track 3: Christmas for You and Me, which is where we first hear her talking-- it sounds forced and unnatural. And, honestly, I like the song UNTIL the talking.
All in all, I think this is a good album to add to your collection. It probably won't be my favorite, but I still love Amy's voice! So, when your family gathers 'round to bake cookies and decorate, throw this CD into the mix of your music shuffle and enjoy your time together.

I have all of Amy's past Christmas cds. They are my favorites! In fact, I took them with me to the birth center as my relaxing music to listen to during labor. I would love to get a copy of Tennessee Christmas. And I'm curious about the talking. I'll have to let you know if I find it distracting or not.
