Ellie Jane works for the town train depot in the ticket booth, and just as she is isolated in that little booth, she is isolated in her town because of childhood horrors. Ned Clovis, the feed store clerk, has loved Ellie since he was twelve, but has never been able to tell her, until he sees that she may be falling for the Duke.
