Stealing Home by Allison Pittman
Stealing Home by Allison Pittman is a story about a four different people, living in a small town where everyone knows everyone else, but each is overwhelmed by loneliness until fate brings them together.
Donald "Duke" Dennison is baseball's golden boy with the Chicago Cubs, but can't keep it together because of alcoholism. He is sent to recuperate in small town Picksville, Missouri where he stays with the town sheriff and his "old maid" daughter, Ellie Jane Voyant. Ellie Jane works for the town train depot in the ticket booth, and just as she is isolated in that little booth, she is isolated in her town because of childhood horrors. Ned Clovis, the feed store clerk, has loved Ellie since he was twelve, but has never been able to tell her, until he sees that she may be falling for the Duke. Morris is a 12 yr old Negro boy who dreams of escaping Picksville. Baseball brings them together, revenge almost tears them apart...can love help bring them home?
Allison Pittman spent seventeen years as a high school English teacher, and then shunned the advice of “experts,” quit her day job and set out to write novels that bring glory to God. She relishes inspiring other writers and leading the theater arts group at her church. She and her husband and three sons live in Universal City, Texas.
