Elusive Hope by MaryLu Tyndall, a review

About the Book:

In a colony named New Hope, while their friends are seeking a Southern utopia. . . .

Hayden is seeking revenge. Relentlessly.

After years of all but selling his soul to track down his scoundrel of a father, Hayden Gale discovers his search must continue in South America, where his father is reported to be helping colonize Brazil. Hayden has nothing more to lose, certainly not a good reputation, and vows to keep pursuing--at any cost--the vile man who he believes killed his mother.

Magnolia is seeking a way out. Desperately.

She’s in the jungles of Brazil against her will, but what choice does Magnolia Scott have? Her father insisted on uprooting their family to escape the uncertainty of Southern life after the Civil War. But how will she survive without all she holds dear—wealthy suitors, beautiful clothes, summer balls, and slaves waiting on her every whim? She vows to find a way to get back home—and attaches herself to handsome Hayden Gale.

As they journey toward Rio de Janeiro, they both seek to use the other for their own purposes. Deceptively. Falling in love was never part of their plans. . . .

My Review:

In this second book of the Escape to Paradise series, MaryLu Tyndall has continued the story of the characters from the first book, but moved the focus to another set of "main characters."  Elusive Hope revolves around Magnolia, a spoiled, well-to-do young Southern Belle who has "ruined her family name and owes her parents a good marriage," and Hayden- a handsome charismatic young man who has used his looks and charisma to swindle his way from childhood to adulthood in one piece.  Magnolia seeks attention and appreciation from any man who will give it to her, not necessarily in the best of ways and Hayden seeks revenge on the father who abandoned himself and his mother when he was young, leaving them poor and unable to take care of themselves.  When Hayden sets off to find his father, Magnolia follows him, but when dark comes and nocturnal animals come out... Hayden takes care of Magnolia.  Meanwhile, back at the settlement, things get weird.  A spiritual darkness attacks the different settlers... and then along comes pirates.

If you haven't read the Forsaken Dreams, the first book in the series, I would highly recommend reading it first, but it's not a requirement.  This book is a great read filled with spiritual truths, adventure and romance!!  Check it out!! I cannot wait for the third book, Abandoned Memories, due out July 2014.   If you read these two books and need something else to read, check out the rest of MaryLu's books!

About the Author:
A Christy Award finalist, MaryLu Tyndall dreamt of tall ships and swashbuckling heroes during her childhood years on Florida’s Atlantic Coast. She holds a degree in Math and worked as a software engineer for fifteen years. Trapped in a land-locked cubicle, she was often seen pounding furiously upon the keyboard during her lunch hour, creating what would become her Legacy of the King’s Pirates series, all the while believing God’s promise to her that. “If you write it, I will get it published”. And He did! Fourteen books later, her loving husband and six children still haven’t gotten used to her historic costumes and nautical speech. MaryLu describes herself as an introvert, patriot, mother of six, the neighborhood cat-lady, tall ship enthusiast, friend of pirates and mermaids, obsessive compulsive control freak, history lover, hopeless romantic, and a sword wielding princess-warrior of the King of Kings. Her books are filled with adventure and romance and themes that are guaranteed to touch your heart! She continues to pen her romantic tales on the California coast while managing a home, husband, six adult kids, and several stray cats who have decided that her keyboard is the best place to sleep! She believes that without popcorn and chocolate, life would not be worth living, and her sole motivation in life is to bring others closer to God.
