My Thoughts:

This is the second installment of the Whispers on the Moors series.  While The Headmistress of Rosemere is the second in the series, it really isn't necessary to read them in order or to have read the first book at all.  I would definitely recommend reading the first book, The Heiress of Winterwood-- this is where you will first meet William Sterling and get a glimpse of his character, but he is a secondary character in that book.

In The Headmistress of Rosemere, we meet Patience Creighton and learn more of William Sterling.  It is a wonderfully written story set in the 1800s. Patience is a lovely, kind, patient young woman of twenty-five -- a spinster in her day, but the girls in her school love her!  She is father, mother, nurse, teacher and friend.  But, something is missing... something she dreamed of as a young girl.

William has gotten himself deep into debt with the wrong people.  When those people threaten his tenants, he has to make a change.  As William tries to clean up his act, he learns things from his past that were hidden and he has to make some difficult choices about his future.

I really enjoyed this book.  It kept me wanting to read (instead of doing other things that I should have been doing!).  If you enjoy Downton Abbey and that genre, you should enjoy this book.  Sarah Ladd has another hit book on her hands!!
