Manic Drive- VIP, a CD review and giveaway:

ABOUT THE BAND:
Manic Drive has been widely known as a Canadian band who always delivers a great show, but over the past few years and project releases, they have added to their extensive touring of Canadian and US markets multiple Billboard Top 10 & 20 singles on CHR & Christian Rock Radio. Manic Drive is clearly very intentional about reaching their generation and inspiring them to pursue a deeper walk with Christ and to get involved in changing the world they are inheriting. And they are uniquely equipped to do so. The band members, all in their early-mid twenties, have made sacrifices to pursue God’s call on their lives. Their life experience, spiritual maturity and ministry have opened doors to speak into the lives of their own generation and that is perhaps the most defining characteristic of this group of guys.

My Review:
Okay, so I'm a fortysomething with four teenagers (not officially until February, but close).  My "style" of music does not always mesh with my teenagers... I guess I'm getting old. ;)  With that being said, I requested this CD because I am open to other music than what I normally listen to.  SO... the day I received the CD in my hand, I showed my 18 year old and she was ecstatic!!  She was so excited because she "loves this band."  Now, mostly we agree on music, but not always.  So, it gave me hope that she liked them.

Fast forward to my next trip to town. I put the CD in the player and the push play.  The music is great... it's got a great club sound and would be awesome for dancing.  But, I couldn't hear the words.  And when I did hear the words, all I could hear was paparazzi and VIP and center stage, but I couldn't hear the Christ focus.  The music was overwhelming the words.  I actually asked my daughter if this was one of those groups who weren't a "Christian band," but were Christians (i.e.- NeedToBreathe)?  She wasn't sure.  Upon further listening, I found God in the lyrics.. you just have to get past the dance beat.  In the following days and weeks, all of my kids got to hear the CD... and while I got no real comment from my 17 year old daughter or 14 year old son, my almost 13 year old son had a comment:  "Mom, I don't like this group... I can't understand what they're saying."  I was so relieved that it wasn't just me!! lol
I wouldn't say this is a bad CD... I would just say that it isn't for everyone.  If you are looking for music to help you meditate and draw closer to God by the inspiring words and soothing sounds, DON'T grab this CD.  If you are looking to relax, enjoy, release some pent up energy and praise God all at the time... this is a great CD.  Check it out. Don't just take my word for it.
Oh, and lest you think all of the songs are dance hits, here's an example of another song on the CD:
