I Choose You Today: 31 Choices to Make Love Last by Deb Armond

I Choose You Today: 31 Choices to Make Love Last (Abingdon Press, January 2015)
Married for nearly 38 years, author Deborah DeArmond and her husband have made the spoken declaration, “I choose you today” a regular part of their communication. It’s when we least feel like saying it that we need to remind ourselves that love is a choice, not a feeling. I Choose You Today features 31 scriptural principles that support marriage and help couples develop healthy biblically based behavior.
Built on an introductory anecdotal story, each chapter has an inspirational takeaway of not only what to do, but how to begin applying the principles immediately. Thought provoking questions create talking points for couples to explore their own choices and experiences in each area serve to generate open dialogue of discovery. I Choose You Today is not a book of “shoulds,” but one of clearly identified choices that each individual can make to grow their marriage and align it with the word of God. Every saying ends with a conventional wisdom quote.

Deb DeArmond is an author, a speaker, and relationship coach—helping her clients improve their interactions at work and at home. Her first book, "Related by Chance, Family by Choice: Transforming Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Relationships," was released in November 2013 by Kregel Publications.

"Love is an act of of will, based in the commitment we made when we married. But that commitment is not a one-and-done kind of deal. It must be renewed. Daily. Love is a choice. Give it or give up on it. Love is always a choice."
Deb Armand shares timely wisdom in I Choose You Today.  In a world where the slightest of infractions can break a marriage apart, Deb reminds us that LOVE IS AN ACT... it's a CHOICE we must make on a daily basis, especially when our loved one is getting on our last nerve.
"Spend your time listening deeply, noticing, and bringing out the best in the person sitting across from you.  This is where the love magic happens."
Isn't this what we do when we are first dating... we show them our best side... we listen deeply as we are getting to know that and we do our best to bring out the best in them.  But when the weight of the world is upon us and the routines of life have worn us down, it's like we just don't even care anymore.
My husband and I have this name for the love we share-- "Stubborn love."  We've been married for 20+ years now and through the years our stubbornness has caused it's share of problems, neither one of us wanting to give, BUT our stubbornness is also what causes one of us to end up apologizing and desiring to fight for this great thing that we have.  Deb's advice and little snippets of wisdom throughout this book are great helps as reminders when life is going the way we want it to or our spouse isn't being very lovable-- LOVE IS A CHOICE!!
I would definitely recommend this book to others.  Take notes... underline and highlight for when the storms of life hit!
