The Little House that Stood, a VeggieTale

The Little House That Stood is the newest in a wonderful series of VeggieTales.  In this parable of the wise and foolish builders, children learn about making good choices.  The Little House That Stood is a wonderfully fun Bible story/ life lesson rolled into one.  Kids love the animation and silliness, while parents love the ease of understanding biblical truths.  It's a great, clean movie for all ages!

About The Little House That Stood
When the Three Little Pigs roll into Cabbageville looking to build some new houses, they meet one builder with a plan and two without a clue! Larry builds with hay, Mr. Lunt with bricks, but only Bob builds his houses on a firm foundation - following the wise plans from the Master Builder's Handbook! Will the Little Piggies make the right choices when it comes to building their houses - and their lives - on solid ground? Find out in this parable that shows kids when they follow God's blueprints, then can stand strong when the storms come!

Little Angels Prayers for Every Day by Roma Downey with Illustrator Lisa Reed, a Review and Giveaway!

About the Book:
Little Angels Prayers for Every Day features more than 50 simple rhyming prayers that cover a typical day and the typical worries of a young child. From waking in the morning to going to sleep at night, from thanking God for a meal to praying for His comfort when afraid, the prayers here will help little ones to see that any moment is a good moment to talk to God. Relevant Bible verses are scattered throughout the book as well!

My Review:

This sweet little book of prayers is the perfect way to introduce the baby/toddler in your life to praying and talking to God throughout the day!!  Its vibrant pictures and beautiful rhymes hold a child's attention while sharing God's love and desire for communication in a simple, easy to understand manner. The best thing is that it will last for a long time, as it is a board book, which is perfect for chubby little handls and not as easily affected by drool!! This is the perfect gift for a new baby or to go in the toddler's Easter basket.

Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate, a review

My Review:

Firefly Island is one of the most beautiful and moving books I have read in a while.  It really struck a chord with me.  Mallory Hale is content, happy even, in her life of politics, friends and family... until she meets him.  It's love at first sight, and after a short romance and a little bit of reality, her life changes so drastically that's she's not sure what happened or if she can survive.

Lisa Wingate has written such an amazing storing that just draws the read in and dares you to put it down.  I laughed, I cried and there even times I was angry.  This is my favorite type of book for sure -- one that takes you through a spectrum of feelings.  The book is perfect for all types of readers-- lovers of romance, comedy, mystery; lovers of happy endings and unfinished endings; lovers of country life and lovers of city life; even Christian or non-Christian readers.  Wingate writes this book with faith inter-woven, but not inyourface... I LOVE that!!

A couple of my favorite quotes:

"How often, I wondered....., do we pass by a need, a life that could be changed with the smallest bit of effort?  And it's not that we don't care but that we're driving so fast, all we se are the fence posts flashing by on the side of the highway?  Maybe the first step in changing the world is in slowing down and looking through the fences." (p164)

"It had never occurred to me that anyone might be watching us, that we might be teaching lessons as we were learning lessons, and when we learned well, we might teach well." (p291)

About Firefly Island:

Sometimes love takes you on an adventure completely off the map.

Mallory Hale's life quickly veers off course when she falls hopelessly in love. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle and action of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas-with husband, stepson, and a U-Haul in tow.

A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues, and Mallory is filled with both the wonderment of love and the insecurities of change. But what she can't shake is the unease she feels around her husband's new boss, Jack West. Jack's presence-and his mysterious past-set her on edge, and when hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory finds herself seeking answers . . . and comes to realize that the middle-of-nowhere home she wasn't sure she wanted is the very place she'll risk everything to save.
