A December Bride (A Year of Weddings Novella) by Denise Hunter

About the Book:

A year's worth of novellas from twelve inspirational romance authors. Happily ever after guaranteed.
What started as a whim turned into an accidental---and very public---engagement. Can Layla and Seth keep up the facade in Chapel Springs this holiday season---for the sake of her career . . . and his heart?
Under normal circumstances, Seth Murphy---the best friend of Layla O'Reilly's ex-fiance---would be the last person she'd marry. But the news of their upcoming (and phony) nuptials convinces a big client that Layla may be high-society enough to work for his agency---a coup that would put her fledgling home-staging business on the map.
Seth has secretly loved Layla for years, even when she was dating his best friend. Maybe she'll never forgive him for the way he hurt her back then, but he has to try. And Layla is willing to keep up their engagement farce until she's landed her client.
For Layla, it's the chance to save her career. But for Seth, it's his last chance to win her heart.

About the Author:

Denise Hunter is the internationally published bestselling author of "Barefoot Summer" and "The Convenient Groom". She has won The Holt Medallion Award, The Reader's Choice Award, The Foreword Book of the Year Award, and is a RITA finalist.
In 1996, inspired by the death of her grandfather, Denise began her first book, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she's been writing ever since. Her husband says he inspires all her romantic stories, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!
When Denise isn't writing she's busy raising three heroes-in-the making with her husband.
You can learn more about Denise through her website www.DeniseHunterBooks.com or by visiting her FaceBook page at https://www.facebook.com/authordenisehunter

My Thoughts:
I haven't read very many novellas, and the few that I have read haven't been that great.  They always seem to be lacking... whether it be details, a finish/closure or whatever.  So, usually I steer clear of novellas, but when I saw this novella was written by Denise Hunter-- I had to check it out!  She is a wonderful author and I have read several of her previous works.
A December Bride is a story of hurt, deception, anger, forgiveness and grace.  Yeah, that's a lot to cram into one little book, but Denise did it!!  The relationship between Layla and Seth is a bit touchy because of their past interactions, but Layla makes it harder because she blames hime for her break-up with her ex.  Seth is mostly patient with Layla and wishes for more than a fake wedding.  There is a happy ending for all involved.  This is the kind of story I call "eye-candy."  It's sweet, not too long and there's a happy ending.  The thing that makes this stand out even more from other novellas of it's kind is that there are biblical truths woven through out.
If you are looking for a quick, easy, happy read... this is a great place to start!!

NIV Ragamuffin Bible, meditations by Brennan Manning

About the Book:
Do you believe that God not only loves you, but that he also likes you? It's just one of the soul-searching questions posed by bestselling author Brennan Manning who confesses he has been 'John the beloved, Peter the coward, and Thomas the doubter all before the waitress brought the check.' The NIV Ragamuffin Bible offers a collection of Manning’s raw, painfully honest, yet grace-filled devotions, meditations, and reflections of his journey limping back to---like the prodigal son---his overjoyed father. When you journey through this Bible, you will likewise find yourself returning to your Heavenly Father, basking in the knowledge that God not only loves you, he delights in you.

Features:
* Complete text of the world’s most popular modern-English Bible, the NIV
* 104 Devotions guide you into a deeper connection to God and his Word
* 250 Reflections help you understand what it means to be a child of God
* 150 Quotes offer short but thoughtful insights into God’s kingdom

About: Brennan Manning
Brennan Manning spent his life and ministry helping others experience the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. A recovering alcoholic and former Franciscan priest, his own spiritual journey took him down a variety of paths, all of them leading to the profound reality of God’s irresistible grace. His ministry responsibilities varied greatly – from teacher, to minister to the poor, to solidary reflective. As a writer, Brennan Manning is best known as the author of the contemporary classics, The Ragamuffin Gospel, Abba’s Child, Ruthless Trust, The Importance of Being Foolish, Patched Together, and The Furious Longing of God.

My thoughts:

This is an NIV put out by Zondervan, interspersed with "meditations for the bedraggled, beat-up & brokenhearted" written by Brennan Manning.  Honestly, I personally did not enjoy all of the "reflections," quotes and devotions.  But, while I read them, I had in mind a friend of mine I felt would completely LOVE this devotional Bible.

As far as the Bible is concerned, the NIV is an easier-to-read version and the print in this one is of a good size as to be easy to read as well.  If you are fan of Brennan Manning, this would be a great addition to your collection of his books.  If you want to search deeper and for a deeper relationship with God, this devotional Bible might be the thing for you.
