A gift I made this week...

I made this for a friend for Christmas. When I first finished the tile, I HATED it and had actually thrown it in the trash (in my craft area... so it's mostly paper). My middle daughter dug it out and loved it. I still didn't. So, I did some stuff to change it and I am happier with it now. This is the first Candle I've ever stamped also. FUN!

Cake Balls...

I made these tonight for some give-away goodie platters I am making. A friend recently introduced me to them at a Christmas party (thanks Kenzie!) and she used Red Velvet Cake and Cream Cheese Frosting. while I was making them, I thought Strawberry cake with Strawberry icing and white almond bark would be delicious!!

Cake Balls

Yields: 36 servings

INGREDIENTS:

1 (18.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
1 (16 ounce) container prepared vanilla frosting
1 pkg white almond bark

DIRECTIONS:

1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions using any of the recommended pan sizes. When cake is done, crumble while warm into a large bowl, and stir in the frosting until well blended.
2. Melt chocolate coating in a glass bowl in the microwave, or in a metal bowl over a pan of simmering water, stirring occasionally until smooth.
3. Use a melon baller or small scoop to form balls of the chocolate cake mixture. Freeze for about 20 mins. Dip the balls in chocolate using a toothpick or fork to hold them. Place on waxed paper to set.

Stamping again... finally!!

This past weekend, I actually got to stamp again!! I hadn't had the time to stamp in over a month. On Saturday, two of my children came down with a stomach bug and they were up all night sick. So, Sunday we stayed home to let them rest and keep the bug away from church. The kids decided to sleep in (YAY!), so I got some QUIET, me time and decided to stamp. My dad is a deacon in his church and he likes to send out cards to "his families." He especially likes to send out cards that I have made, so I thought I would make him a card holder and some cards for part of his Christmas present. Here's what I have so far:

Where'd it go?

Well, for some reason blogger is not working with me this morning. I have written up a post and added pics 2x and it has disappeared both times. Maybe I'll try again later!

The UN-DEAD Chicken....

This afternoon I was taking my youngest son to the eye-doctor to pick up his glasses. He ran out of the house as I gave my oldest daughter some instructions for while I was gone. Next thing I know, my son ran back in and said that one of the red chickens was in the "dumpster" {big trash can at the curb} and that it had laid an egg there. I said, "No honey... that's the dead chicken that daddy had to kill yesterday." He said, "No, it's alive, it's pooped and it laid an egg!"

I couldn't believe what he was saying to me. I saw my husband with the dead chicken. I saw him put the dead chicken inside of 2 Wal-mart bags and then he took it out to the trash. In fact, just 30 mins earlier I had thrown away some of the mail I had received that was trash!!

So, I followed him out to the trash and peeked in. Sure enough, there was a chicken pecking around with a pooped on egg!! I looked in there to see if there was a bag with a dead chicken in it,but no... there wasn't. The bags were in the floor of the trash can... the trash I had thrown in earlier was there, but the UN-DEAD Chicken was standing victor of it all!!

Shocked, I called my husband. DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE WANTED ME TO DO!???! Yeah, right... not happening!! They are his chickens. I told him I would leave it in there and if it was still alive when he got home, he could deal with it!!

I left to get my son's glasses. On the drive over, I decided to call our friend Stu. He answered the phone and I said,"Hey Stu! How do you feel about killing chickens?" He laughed and asked why. So, I explained the situation to him and he said he'd take care of it, which he did within the hour. Now we have a twice-dead chicken in the trash can. And, I'm praying that I don't have a nightmare about that silly chicken tonight!

A Sad Day in the Hen House....

Today, I was inside taking care of whatever, and all of a sudden I hear a racket going on in the back yard! The dog was barking, the chickens were sqwaking and so on. As soon as I could, I ran outside to see what was going on. By this time the dog was hiding and the chickens were quiet, so I had to investigate.

I walked down the porch steps and asked the dog what was going on... no, she didn't answer. I could tell she thought she was in trouble! My first clue, she knew she did something bad. So, I go back to the garden area where the chickens run free. I call out to the girls and here come three blacks... then a red. Um, where are the other two reds? I decided to check in the hen house, and there was a girl doing her thing with an egg, but there was still a girl missing.

I left the garden area and again asked the dog about the chicken. She actually led me to a pile of wood that Morgan's been meaning to burn. There under a wooden palet that is under this pile of wood, I find the chicken. I can't tell if she is alive or not. I yell at the dog to go to her house and I run inside for the phone and call Morgan. I decided that while I waited on Morgan to get home, I could at least move some of the wood off the top of the chicken.. it was prety heavy. I could barely see one end of the chicken, but I could tell that end was damaged. It wasn't until I got most of the wood off the palet that I realized it was the tail-end of the chicken. As soon as Morgan got home, I led him to the Chicken. He pulled her out... she was still alive, but her butt was bare. He took her back to the hen house and brought me the egg the other chicken had been worrying and told me that the chicken (#2) had already broken one egg. I took that egg inside and he dealt with the dog.

After a couple of calls to the Feed store where we bought these chickens, it was decided that it was in the Chicken's best interested if she was put out of her misery... so Morgan had to ring her neck. Very sad...very, very sad. The other hens could tell something was wrong.. they all kind of just acted out of sorts.

So, we are now down to 5 chickens.

How egg-citing!!

Today Morgan went to take care of the chickens [let them out to roam the garden], and he checked the nests. He found our first egg!!

Fall has arrived....

New pics...

Today all of my children were home from school. Fall Break. One day (plus the weekend of course). Weird!

So, I scheduled Flu Shots for today... yep.. bright and early this morning all five marched into the dr's office and got poked. In return, they should be healthier this winter and they all 5 got a free ice cream coupon.

Then I took them to the park to try to get some decent pics of them. I WILL NOT pay the outlandish fees that "portrait studios" want to charge!! WILL NOT! Here is what I ended up with:

Salmon....

Last Friday, Morgan went with a friend and his friend to get Salmon. He did this last year also. They go up to a place called Roarin' Judy's and there the people have milked the salmon for their eggs and then they give the salmon away. So, Morgan got up at 2am to meet his friend at 3am to drive up and get the salmon. They are at the front of the line, but this year.. the line is SOOOO long that they only get 5 salmon. Since they were at the front of the line, they were able to get 5 more salmon. They make the long drive home and then still have to clean and store the fish. We usually "can" the fish... it's just the easiest way to store it for us. I did tell Morgan it would be nice to freeze some, so we could have salmon steaks to grill or whatever. Morgan got home and was dealing with the fish and he found out that he got 11 fish!! COOL!

So, here are some pics of the fish:

There are more fish to be given away over the next 4 weekends, so Morgan says he might get to go back up! Yay for free food!!

October already.....

Wow, where has the time gone??

This month is crazy busy.... yeah, not just busy... CRAZY busy!!

I love the briskness in the air... the scents wafting of fruit that is ready to picked, leaves that are ready to fall and fires waiting to warm us. Fall is definitely my favorite time of the year. I love all the brilliant oranges, yellows and reds... the fading greens and the new browns. Earth tones... gotta love them!!

We went to Aspen on the last Friday of Sept. It was beautiful!!

Labor Day -- Sept 1, 2008

Well, everyone was home today... from school and work. We originally planned on going for a drive (down to San Isabel or something), but decided since our U-Joint on the Suburban is messed up, that we probably shouldn't. Wouldn't want to get stuck somewhere out there...

Then, we thought about going to the Zoo... but again, there's that distance thing. So, we took the kids to the park. We don't usually get to this park, so we thought, "what the heck!?" and we packed up the scooters and went to the skate park. Now, my kids have never gone into the "bowl" or whatever else you can do at the park, so this was a totally new experience. Here are some pics:
